 September in Year 5

We welcomed the children back in September with a range of exciting subjects and experiences. Our main topic focus is history - where we are exploring the Victorians and the impact of the Industrial Revolution on the local area. We will take part in a walk to discover the hidden history of Madeley and Woodside, including the tragic tale of 'The nine men of Madeley'.

In Maths we will focus on getting the basics of calculation and number understanding mastered, including work on place value and written methods.

We are delighted to begin a new approach to teaching Literacy, including focussing on the book 'Curiosity' as a driver for some incredible writing. Children will be immersed into the book through, hands on activities including oracy and experiential learning.

In Reading we will begin a firm favourite book of Mr Spragg's - Dexter Proctor - the 10 year old doctor by Adam Kay. It contains intrigue, drama, injustice and lots of fart jokes!

Our Science focus is on forces and our lessons will be very hands on, including using magnets and parachutes to carry out experiments.

As well as this we will be working on our skills in PE, Spanish, Music, Computing, D&T and RE to give our children the chance to develop their understanding of the world around us.
